Osteopath London - Shepherds Bush W12

Tim Howard

B. Ost. Med. DO. ND

Registered Osteopath and Naturopath

Tim Howard worked in business for ten years before retraining, initially as a theraputic masseur, then as an Osteopath and Naturopath at the British College of Osteopathic Medicine, an institution known for its strict and effective clinical training, which encourages a distinct and high quality of practice, based on the key naturopathic tenet of a balance between biomechanical, nutritional and psychological factors.

Tim follows in the footsteps of his renowned grandfather, Johnnie Johnson, a practising Osteopath for 60 years, founder of London College of Osteopathic Medicine (LCOM) and former president of the British Osteopathic Association (BOA).

Tim believes it is important to help patients to understand the causes and maintaining factors of their condition(s); as well as providing the hands-on osteopathic techniques, implied nutritional support, and prescription of hydrotherapy (easy and effective use of warm or cold water, ice packs or steam to ease pain and promote healing) and exercise schedules to allow patients to continue their healing process at home.

Tim has a specific interest in pregnant and post-natal cases, due to his experience as a pregnancy masseur, and further developed in his management of these types of cases at the BCOM College Clinic. He wrote his dissertation on the effective prescription of home exercises for patients with lower back pain.

Tim is excited by the opportunity of working with an established, respected practice as The Happiness Centre, as he believes that therapies such as acupuncture, hypnotherapy, pilates and yoga combine excellently with osteopathy to fulfil the naturopathic ethos of the body's ability to heal itself without drugs.

Client Testimonials

I have seen Tim Howard for a number of months. When we met I arrived with a stiff and painful neck, unable to relax, find a comfortable sitting position or sleep very easily. Tim's assessment and therapeutic manner was confident, re-assuring, gentle and kind. He was keen to know from me, what troubled me and to determine each week whether the pain was worse, better or changed. He was keen to know whether the previous treatment had been successful in easing my discomfort and keen to try out new manipulations, based on this ongoing re-assessment of my needs.

He usefully gave me exercises to undertake at home, that felt manageable and helpfully assessed the car seat and my driving position and discussed my posture at work, to ensure this was both correct and not contributing to further difficulties. When I met him I had a sense that I had his undivided attention and thoughtfulness, this did not waver. My posture has improved, my neck pain and stiffness ameliorated.

I would have no hesitation in recommending him as an Osteopath to anyone else and indeed will make contact with him again should the need arise.

* * * *

I have been receiving osteopathic treatment from Tim Howard for the past eighteen months and have always found him very capable and thorough in all aspects of his work.

One of his most distinguishing characteristics I noticed the very first time he treated me was that he seemed genuinely concerned that I was in such excruciating pain and (arranged on the spot) for extra time to allow him to carrying on working on me, for an additional few minutes, to ease the pain and agony I was experiencing, an extra few minutes that were meaningful and effective. Subsequent treatment from Tim has endorsed that attribute of his work which has increased my confidence of being in his care and the knowledge that i'll be a lot better and my pain will be much less once I have had my treatment.

He always demonstrates a keen interest in his patient's condition and has meticulously provided me with effective therapy over the years which has alleviated quite severe pain. His advice and support has enabled me to control symptoms and offered significant pain relief.

People need information about their condition and an opportunity to talk through the implications for them. I have found that Tim has an inimitable way of doing so which almost makes you feel as though you have reached a shared agreement about the proposed form of treatment, he is about to give.

Tim's caring, supportive and efficient approach is at the heart of what he does so well in the field of osteopathy and neuropathy.

I am confident that he ... will endeavour to exceed the quality of care and professionalism he has been giving to his patients ...
