Osteopath Shepherds Bush & Hammersmith
Jarvia Foxter
Registered Osteopath and Diagnostic Radiographer
Neuro-muscular-skeletal Specialist
Jarvia is a highly dedicated Osteopath whose ethos is motivated by positive patient outcomes. She has over 15 years extensive experience in healthcare. Her professional ideology is underpinned by traditional osteopathic philosophy and principles, complemented by current research into Best Practice.
Jarvia’s therapeutic approach involves a contemporary fusion of Osteopathic Disciplines (including a structural approach using manipulations and soft tissue work; functional, visceral and cranial techniques) as well as Medical Acupuncture and Neuromuscular Rehabilitation.
During the initial consultation all patients receive specialist examination (e.g. postural, orthopaedic, neurological) and diagnosis. The diagnosis then informs an individually tailored Treatment Plan with lifestyle advice and rehab.
Should patients require further medical investigation prior to treatment (e.g. MRI/CT scans) Jarvia will refer patients directly to the local imaging department or to their GP for any other tests.
Jarvia’s career began as a Diagnostic Radiographer in 1994. This afforded her valuable literacy in medical imaging: the interpretation of images, the subsequent treatment options and procedures within UK hospitals and also an in-depth knowledge of the appropriate referral modalities for symptom specific needs.
She has extensive surgical experience and has worked with some of London’s leading surgeons in neurology and orthopaedics.
Jarvia maintains her skills as a Radiographer in a busy Pain Clinic with a surgical team of Anaesthetists and Nurses at the London Bridge Hospital.
After years in a diagnostic role she became interested in working within an effective therapeutic discipline. She was impressed by the dramatic benefits of osteopathic treatments she received for a snowboarding injury but also by the holistic and compassionate outlook the osteopaths had when considering health and illness. This view resonated profoundly with her personal ideologies and inspired her new career as an osteopath. As a student of Zen master, Thich Nhat Hanh, and yoga practitioner she places the principle of the interconnection of body and mind at the forefront of her healing work.
Jarvia graduated with Distinction from the British School of Osteopathy, the renowned international leading institute for osteopathic education and research. Her two year undergraduate research explored the osteopathic treatment and management of Pregnancy Related Pelvic Pain (PRPP) compared with standard care within the UK. Her skills in peri-natal care of expectant and new mothers developed further with a Postgraduate Diploma in Obstetric Osteopathy.
Jarvia enjoys treating patients of all ages and for a wide variety of conditions.
She treats new/acute injuries and chronic problems. Many of her patients seek treatment to maintain good health and function.
Jarvia is a recognised specialist with most major insurance companies.
About Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a system of manual medicine that diagnoses, treats and helps to prevent problems arising from and within the musculo-skeletal system (muscles, bones, joints, organs, connective tissue) Osteopathy requires a detailed knowledge of anatomy, physiology and methods of clinical investigation on the part of the practitioner. Osteopaths:
- Diagnose and treat complaints occurring due to injury, stress, disease and accidents.
- Aim to enable the musculoskeletal system to work as efficiently as possible by disencumbering it from unnecessary stressors.
- Harness the body’s innate healing processes in the search for health and normal function.
- Believe a caring approach and attention to individual needs is paramount.
- Refer patients on to a registered medical practitioner when appropriate.
Treatment:
- Is always appropriate to the patient’s age and condition.
- Is available to all age groups.
- Is based on an osteopathic diagnosis.
- Is always carried out with the consent of the patient.
- Different techniques, eg cranial, soft tissue, structural manipulation are applied as necessary.
T raining:
- Is a rigorous and demanding course lasting at least 4 years.
- Osteopaths at The Happiness Centre undertake a programme of continuous professional development.
And for peace of mind:
- Osteopathy is a safe and natural approach to health care
- Patients of any age can be treated effectively for a variety of health problems
- Every year over 6,000,000 patients in Great Britain consult an osteopath
