ReikiReiki is a gentle, non-invasive, ancient form of natural healing that uses touch from the practitioner to allow healing energy to flow to the recipient. The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words - Rei and Ki, rei, which means "spirit" or "soul," and ki, which means "energy" or "life force" and the term describes both the energy and the system developed in the early 1900's by Mikao Usui in Japan for using this energy to promote healing. Used to relieve physical and emotional pain and to promote spiritual clarity, Reiki also speeds the healing process and balances the body using subtle stationary hand positions on points of tension or injury. Although Reiki is “hands-on”, unlike massage, Reiki is administered through a very gentle touch. While the patient is seated or lying down and fully clothed, the practitioner’s hand are placed along energy centers and pathways on the head, neck, shoulders, upper chest, abdomen, legs, and feet (similar to those used in acupuncture). It is a form of energy work that works on the physical, emotional and spiritual levels by balancing the natural life force energy within the body. Reiki can be used as a form of health maintenance and disease prevention, and can be applied as a self-help technique, or used on others. What are the benefits of Reiki?
